Great to read this again - still enjoyed it all these years later.
5 out of 5 stars.
Great to read this book again. As someone said earlier this is the ultimate crossover. This for anyone who as a child loved Marvel comics. I bought this wondering if it had dated and could I still still enjoy it .... well it hasnt dated and yes, I loved reading it again. It brought back many happy memories, memories of what a good graphic novel it is and memories of my childhood when I first read it.

This was a great purchase and well worth the price.

Marvel Memories
5 out of 5 stars.
What a great read, I stumbled apon these by chance and it was like a trip down memory lane, I had some issues in my youth, but what a find to have all 12 issues in one cool read. Definately some of the best work Marvel has done, I would recommend to any super hero fan, this is a marvel fest of battles, with a great story line and classic images.

Revisit those childhood days!
4 out of 5 stars.
OK, so I'm actually 33 years old BUT! I have very fond memories of getting the original comics when I was small and thrilled I was to see this collected edition by Marvel available.

Eventually I convinced myself to order it without shame (old as I am now) and am glad I did. The memories came flooding back. How clearly I remembered some of the story threads and scenes. Looking back, what a big leap this was for Marvel, an epic-style story involving all their main characters. The art still looks great and the quality of the paper is good too. True, expository dialogue is everywhere ("thank goodness my ion-clocking shield device protects me from this vicious laser attack" etc) and seemingly every sentence ends with an exclamation mark! Which! After a while! Sends you mad!
But I suppose that is part of the charm.

It was a grand vision. Also to note - I was partly confusing in my mind this series with what is apparently the SECOND series (i.e. "Secret Wars II") where the Beyonder actually turns up on earth, but that is not part of this series, so I will have to track that down separately.

No extra bits or essays - perhaps that would be a bit pretentious given the straight ahead action-fun core of the story. If you want deep, buy Alan Moore, but if you want nostalgia, you could do a lot worse.

The Ultimate Crossover!!!!!
5 out of 5 stars.
I still have detailed fond memories of recieving my weekly copy of Secret Wars delivered by the paper boy back in the 80's.So when it was released as a complete graphic novel with full colour pages i was foaming at the mouth. To me,this is simply one of the finest marvel storylines to be hatched up,not to mention being the greatest crossover i can remember.Think of practically everyone of your favourite heroes & villains(bar a selected few,well..nothings perfect) and chances are, they're in here! I wont go into a description of the actual story because i would probably do it a huge injustice so I'll just urge you to purchase this book because i can guarantee that even if you only have a fondness for a few of the major players in marvel(Spidey,Xmen, hulk etc..) you will not be able to put this down! Best graphic novel ever!!!!!

Better than I remembered it
5 out of 5 stars.
I bought the Secret Wars comics when they first came out -- and I still think of it as one of the most stimulating periods of comic writing. It was great to see the characters thrown into such a different environment together. Doctor Doom was better than ever. However, when I re-read Secret Wars in this one volume it was better than I remembered it. If you saw anything of it first time around, make sure you get this.
